Simon Says
One child is the leader and stands in front of the other players. He/she then instructs the others players to make various actions (such as put your finger on your nose, or touch your toes). He/she begins with "Simon Says" the players must do the instruction that follows. However, if he/she does not say "Simon Says" the instruction should not be done. If a player follows the instruction that has not been started with the phrase "Simon Says" they are out. The last child left in the game is the winner and becomes the next leader.
What's the time, Mr. Wolf
One child is chosen to be Mr. Wolf. Mr. Wolf then stands with his back to everyone, who takes one step at a time towards him from a reasonable distance. At each step, one of the group shouts, "What's the time, Mr. Wolf?". The wolf then gives the time and the group takes another step forward. At any time in the game Mr. Wolf may, instead of giving the time, shout the reply "Its Dinner Time". He then turns round and chases after the other players. The player who is caught then becomes Mr. Wolf.
Blind Man's Bluff
A child is chosen to be blindfolded. They are then turned around three times in the centre of the room and then left alone. The other children dance around, dodging out of his or her way to avoid capture. When the child that is blindfolded catches someone, he/she will have two or three guesses, depending on the number of children playing, at the name of the one who is captured. If they guess correctly, the prisoner becomes the new blind man. If they guess incorrectly, they continue to be the blind man and will try to catch someone else.
Pin the Tail on the Donkey
This game can be made theme specific by pinning any object that is relevant depending on your party's theme (i.e. for a Princess Party draw a frog and red pucker lip for each child and write their name on it, attach double sided tape to the back of the lips, each child sticks their lips nearest to the frogs lips). Before you start, blindfold them and then you point them in the right direction. The child who pins their object closest to the designated spot, is the winner! You may want to play this game several times to give your guest more chances to win.
Musical Chairs
Chairs are placed around the room in a big circle. There should be less chair than the number of children. The children all stand in the middle of the circle, when the music starts, every dance around. When the music stops, each child tries to sit on a chair. The child left without a seat is out. One chair is then removed and the music is restarted. The last child to stay in the game is the winner.
Musical Bumps
This game is similar to Musical Chairs (see above) except that it is played without the chairs. In this case, when the music stops, the children sit down on the floor. The last child to sit down is out. The last child to stay in the game is the winner.
Musical Statues
Children dance around the room to music. When the music stops, they immediately stop dancing and stand as still like statues. Any child who is seen moving is out. The music is started again and it continues. The children who are out can help to spot moving statues. The last child to remain is the winner.
Pass the Parcel
A parcel is wrapped in layers of paper. Each layer should be secured with tape, glue, or a rubber band. A small present or sweets can be included in each layer.
All the children sit in a circle and one of them holds the parcel. When the music starts, they pass the parcel around the circle to the right. When the music stops, whoever is holding the parcel unwraps one layer of wrapping. If a small toy or sweets has been included in the layers, the child unwrapping gets to keep the item. The music is then restarted and the parcel is passed on again. The game continues in this way until somebody takes off the final wrapping and wins the present.
Balloon Race
Divide the children into two teams of equal number. Then form two lines, which stand side by side. The balloon is given to the first child in each team, who passes it backwards over his/her head to the next child. The balloon continues to be passed backwards along the line to the last remaining child, who runs to the front of the line and then passes the balloon through his/her feet to the child behind. This continues until the teams are back to the order in which they started the game. The first team to reach it's original position wins.
Balloon Prize
This game is quite simple. Before blowing up your party balloons, place a prize in each balloon (a small bouncing ball, sweets, jewellery etc.,) and get the children to burst them.
Balloon Relay Race
Divide the children into two teams of single-file lines, facing forward. Place a balloon between the knees of the first child in each line. When the race starts, the first child on each team turns to face the next person in line. The second child must grasp the balloon with his/ her knees and then pass it on to the third person, and so on. If the balloon falls to the ground, the team must start over. The first team to successfully pass the balloon down the line, wins!
Mummies
This is a great fun game (can be used for a Scooby Doo Theme Party). Divide the children into teams of three. Each team gets a roll of toilet paper. One is the "mummy" and the other two become the mummy makers. The aim is to wrap the mummy as quickly as possible. The first team to use all their toilet paper wins. You could also give a prize for neatness.
The Princess Walk
Print or photocopy pictures of Disney Princess/Toy Story (whatever Theme your party is). Stick them onto posterboard. Each child starts out by standing on a picture. Start the music and when the music stops whoever is standing on Cinderella wins a prize. This can be played a few times in order for each child to win a prize.Wishing Well
Fill a bucket of water (make sure the children are supervised at all times) give each child 20 cents, whoever gets the most in wins the game and gets a prize. This is a great hit and can be played over and over again.
Colouring Book
This is great to have when the children first arrive and are awaiting for the rest of party to arrive. Print off clipart and pictures to match your party theme (i.e. Disney Princess Theme print pictures of Belle, Cinderella, Snow White etc.,) Disney.com is a great site for colouring pictures.
Piñata Party
A Piñata is made of papier-mâché to form the shape of popular and traditional characters depending on your party's theme and is then filled with sweets and small toys. (To be played under adult supervision)
The idea is that an adult hangs the piñata by a rope from a tree branch, clothes line and each player takes it in turns while blindfolded to hit the piñata with a stick until it breaks open. As soon as it is broken all the goodies fall out for everyone to share. To avoid young children being disappointed, it would be a good idea to put small goody bags inside with each child's name on it. |
